PTSD Therapy
Trauma can change the way we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. If you're living with the effects of trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), you’re not alone—and you deserve care that is grounded in safety, affirmation, and respect.
At Perfectly Queer Counseling, we offer compassionate, trauma-informed PTSD therapies to support your healing. We believe that trauma is not just something to be “fixed”—it’s something to be understood, witnessed, and moved through with care.
What is PTSD?
PTSD can occur after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms may include:
Flashbacks or intrusive memories
Avoidance of reminders or emotions
Hypervigilance or a constant sense of danger
Emotional numbness or disconnection
Irritability, shame, or intense fear
Sleep issues or concentration difficulties
While these symptoms are common responses to trauma, they can be deeply disruptive. Therapy to treat PTSD can help you find grounding, process what happened, and begin to reconnect with safety, self, and others.
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
Not all trauma comes from a single event. Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) can result from ongoing, repeated trauma—especially in situations where escape or safety wasn’t possible. This may include childhood abuse or neglect, chronic relationship trauma, systemic oppression, or long-term emotional invalidation.
C-PTSD may involve many of the same symptoms as PTSD, but often also includes:
Deep emotional dysregulation
Chronic shame or guilt
Persistent self-doubt or worthlessness
Difficulty trusting others or maintaining relationships
A fractured or unstable sense of self
We understand that healing from complex trauma takes time, patience, and deep care. Our approach to trauma therapy in Washington is built to support this work with gentleness and respect for your lived experience.
EMDR as a PTSD Therapy Option
We offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as one of the evidence-based PTSD therapies available at our practice. EMDR helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they become less emotionally charged and less disruptive over time.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sound) to help the brain “unstick” from trauma responses. It can be a powerful tool for reducing symptoms like flashbacks, avoidance, and negative self-beliefs.
EMDR can be used to treat both PTSD and C-PTSD and is adaptable to your pace, readiness, and needs. We’ll work collaboratively to determine if and when EMDR feels like the right fit for you.
"Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means remembering with less fear."
